ISWP Rolling Resistance Test

Wheelchairs used in adverse environments are found to be heavy and difficult to roll. Wheels, tires and casters perform differently depending on tire’s tread design, type of tire (pneumatic versus solid), camber level, toe-in/toe-out, type of spokes, and play in the axle hub bearings. The ISWP Rolling Resistance Test evaluates the resistance of wheels and casters on different surfaces evident in adverse environments. Results from the tests allow manufacturers and service providers to select an appropriate design based on use conditions.
